Sopley Village Fête

Continuing to spread awareness of Bransgore Rotary in the district and to further increase the club’s profile, we took a pitch at the Sopley Fête, held in the grounds of the Old Vicarage in the village. With generous contributions from club members and many others, we ran a traditional Tombola with over seventy wide ranging items that included a bottle of whiskey and mini deep fat fryer on one hand, to a bar of soap and scented candle on the other. There was even a roll of Izal toilet paper on offer!

The weather could not have been kinder and the organisers were rewarded with a good attendance. Many people turned up all through the Saturday afternoon to enjoy brilliant entertainment of dancing and singing put on by the village, especially the wonderful belly dancers, and to browse the many stalls and games.

Bransgore Rotary also had a successful afternoon. Well before the end of the event all the tombola items had been won in the draw with many people returning during the afternoon to try and try again for a particular desired item. This was also an opportunity to remind people of our annual Beer Festival at The Three Tuns in Bransgore from 29th September to 1st October, and we were able to reward many well deserving losers with one of last year’s Festival glasses.

Congratulations to the village hall committee for their organisation of the event. As a result of the generosity of both those who donated prizes and those who bought tombola tickets, we were able to raise a very respectable £226 for charity on a fun-filled and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

The perfect day was rounded off for us with a gorgeous supper prepared by (club president) Nigel and Jeanne on a perfectly warm evening in their beautiful garden.
