Christchurch Priory Visit

On one of the rare days in August 2023 when the sun shone and the skies were blue there was not a cloud to be seen as the members and partners of Bransgore Rotary visited the Famous and historic Christchurch Priory. What a treat was in store!

On arrival we were greeted by some Christchurch Priory volunteers who split us into 2 groups. One group to tour the main area of The Priory and the other group to visit the Priory Tower via 176 steep and curling steps. Both tours were equally fascinating as the guides would stop and share many interesting facts and figures relating to the history of this amazing building. The Tower group whilst a little breathless, finally reached the top of the Tower to be greeted with the most exhilarating 360 degree views across the whole of Christchurch and its surrounding coastline. One could see from The Isle of Wight, to Hengistbury Head and if you turned 180 degrees from the coastline, the eagle eyed members, could even catch a glimpse of the spire of Salisbury cathedral.

Our thanks go out to the volunteers, clearly so passionate about The Christchurch Priory, and the “weather gods” for giving us perfect weather.

Oh yes, finally we rounded off the afternoon with a cream tea at “The Ducking Stool Tea Rooms”, mmm delicious!
